Presented in this lot is a Rare 1879 edition of "Ab-Sa-Ra-Ka Land Of Massacre" with maps by Col. Henry B. Carrington, U. S. A., J. B. Lippincott & CO. Philadelphia publishers, fifth edition, illustrated. This is Col. Carrington's revision of his wife's original 1868 book, "Ab-Sa-Ra-Ka, Home Of The Crows". Of noteworthy importance, this book was revised in 1878, two years after the Battle of the Little Big Horn, General Custer's crushing defeat, and it includes historical updates of the continuing Indian Wars through May 1878 . "Ab-Sa-Ra-Ka Land of Massacre: Being the Experience of an Officer's Wife on the Plains. With an Outline of Indian Operations and Conferences From 1865-1878", a must read for anyone studying the Indian wars of the high plains during the 19th century. This gripping account of life on the American frontier provides readers with a vivid picture of the challenges faced by settlers and soldiers alike. The author, Margaret Irvin Carrington, who was the wife of an officer stationed in Nebraska during the Indian Wars, provides a unique perspective on the conflict between settlers and Native Americans and the political and social forces that shaped it. The green cloth bound gold gilt stamped illustrated hardcover is in nice condition, gold gilt is clean and bright, scuffing and fading noted on covers and edges. Intact pages exhibit age tanning, measures 5"W x 7.5"L x 1"D.
