Presented in this lot is this Abraham Lincoln Carte de Visite by A. S. Baldwin, circa 1864. Provenance: Tombstone Western Heritage Museum, Tombstone, Arizona. From the original Matthew Brady photograph, A.S. Baldwin was a photographer who captured several portraits of Abraham Lincoln, including some that are now part of the National Portrait Gallery's collection. He also documented Abraham Lincoln in Carte de visite. Baldwin is especially known for his Carte de visite of the train car that carried the body of Abraham Lincoln from Washington, D.C., to Springfield, Illinois, in April 1865. Baldwin also documented the Civil War, capturing images of Lincoln's first Inaugural and other events. A.S. Baldwin's photographs are now preserved in collections like the National Portrait Gallery. This notable portrait by Baldwin depicts Lincoln in an oval frame, a style popular at the time. Reverse features Baldwin's studio logo stamp, "Specialite A. S. BALDWIN 18 Broad St. Columbus, Ohio" printed inside a shield. This Carte de visite is mounted in a double matted gold gilt oval glazed wood frame. Age tanning and slight foxing noted. Visible image measures 2"W x 2.5"L, frame is 5.5"W x 7.5"L x .5"D. Weight is 6oz.
