Rare American Indian Presentation Inlaid Dag Knife

This is a beautiful, rare American Indian dag knife in presentation grade, inlaid and said to have been used in treaties, owned by Chief’s or tribal dignitaries. The knife features a forged blade, hardwood haft and copper inlaid attachments. There is extensive file work on the copper mounts. There is an example in the Smithsonian National Museum of American History from the Cree Great Plains circa 1830-1840 England, Sheffield from the Victor Justice Evans Collection in a nearly identical design, showing a copper round pommel end, beaver back / beaver tail grip with round rivets and classic dag knife blade as well as an upside down shield inlay; being in more worn condition. Our example also shows the upside down shield inlay, round pommel end covered in copper with copper rivets and a round wood center having a “V” shape cut at the grip. Truly a fantastic impressive example with nearly identical design as a fine documented example. Measures 12 ½ inches in length. The Smithsonian example is shown in the picture gallery for comparison.
