This lot includes two (2) books from the rare "Sportsman's Club Series" and one (1) book from the rare "Boy Trapper Series" by Charles Austin Fosdick (1842-1915), better known by his nom de plume Harry Castlemon, a prolific writer of juvenile stories and novels, intended mainly for boys. Castlemon became the most-read author for boys in the post-Civil War era, the golden age of children's literature. "The Boy Trapper, or, How Dave Filled the Order" 1878, written from the point of view of a boy character, George Ackerman. "The Sportsman's Club Afloat" 1874, and "The Sportman's Club Among the Trappers" 1874. Castlemon often drew on his experiences serving in the Union Navy during the U.S. Civil War for inspiration. These illustrated hardcovered books are in good overall conditions, gold gilt on covers and spines still fairly visible for the Sportman's Club books with pebble finish covers and stamped titling on both front and rear covers, some spine separation noted for all three books. Boy Trapper has a pictorial onlay on the floral designed grey cloth bound hardcover front cover. Intact pages with slight marring damage noted within all three consisting of bent or tattered edges. Age tanning and slight foxing also noted throughout. No other obvious marring noted. Sportman's Club book each measure 4.75"W x 6.75"L x 1.25"D approximately; Boy Trapper measures 4.25"W x 6.25"L x .75"D approximately.
