In this lot is a rare Alley Bead in very good condition. The term Alley Bead is used for a bead that resembles a German Marble but is twice its size. This beautiful example of a late 19th century "Alley Bead" measures 4cm in diameter and is 3 1/2cm high (hole to hole). This handmade bead has a "lantern" pattern of swirled white stripes, like a gooseberry bead on the inside. The outer part of the bead has two blue with white center swirls, two green with yellow center swirls, two red with white center swirls, two red with yellow center swirls, and four single yellow swirls. The clearness of the glass makes this very striking. This bead is in very good condition. Provenance: letter of appraisal from Out-West Designs, L. W. Dinneen, with a value of $325.
