Featured in this lot is a completely handmade heavy squash necklace crafted of sterling silver, mercury dimes, and Fox Turquoise discoidal necklace from Navajo master silversmith artist James McCabe. The necklace features a wonderfully heavy and professionally hand pressed total of 73 hand crafted sterling silver Mercury Dime's pressed into hollow beads. It features a custom clasp with a Mercury Dime set into the hook part of the clasp. The necklace features rolled conal decorations with 32 discoidal Fox turquoise stones, as well as an Old Pawn style sterling silver sand cast naga pendant with a single hanging blossom in its center and an inlaid mosaic of Fox turquoise and red branch coral cabochon set into the top of the naga pendant. The artist’s hallmark can be seen on the back side of the pendant. The condition of this squash necklace is good, with no obvious signs of damage. The measurements of this necklace from clasp to clasp are 26" and the naga pendant measures 3 3/4" x 2 3/8" x 1/2". The overall weight of this necklace is 247.8g. This is one of the better Squash necklaces to come through this auction and is from the better quality available to the public market. The piece had a gallery price of over $5,000. Truly an unbelievable heavy handmade example rarely offered for sale.
