For your consideration is this Rare Original 1901 Collier's Magazine, Volume 27, Issue 24. Collier's was an American general interest magazine founded in 1888 by Peter Fenelon Collier as a magazine of fiction, fact, sensation, wit, humour and news. By 1892, it was one of the largesat selling magazines in the United States. With an emphasis on news, the magazine became a leading exponent of the halftone news picture. As a result of Peter Collier's pioneering investigative journalism, Collier's established a reputation as a proponent of social reform, resulting in such changes as the reform of child labor laws, slum clearance and women's suffrage. After lawsuits by several companies against Collier's ended in failure, other magazines joined in what Theodore Roosevelt described as muckraking journalism. The annual Collier Prize for State Government Accountability is one of the largest American journalism prizes and it was established to honor Peter Collier's legacy and contributions in the field of investigative journalism. The magazine was launched as Collier's Once a Week, then renamed in 1895 as Collier's Weekly: An Illustrated Journal, shortened in 1905 to Collier's: The National Weekly and eventually to simply Collier's. This issue has "Collier's" as its title while the inner pages exhibit "Collier's Weekly"; the page three title is "Collier's Illustrated Weekly". The first in-depth story is about the assassination of then United States President McKinley the week before, featuring illustrated photographs. The magazine features many stories and advertisements of an era in the history of this country long forgotten. This one hundred twenty-one year old magazine is in amazingly good overall condition with age tanning noted throughout and some foxing as well. Measures 11.25"W x 16"L approximately.
