Featured in this lot is this rare Sheriff Pat Garrett Lincoln County arrest warrant circa 1881; Provenance: From the Tombstone Western Heritage Museum in Tombstone, Arizona. The arrest warrant features two sides and two stories to it with the front showing the professional letter head of The Territory of New Mexico to the Sheriff of Lincoln County requesting the arrest and retrieval of one James Jones on the indictment of Murder. The back of the arrest warrant includes the hand written statement by Sheriff Pat Garrett and includes an expense tally accrued during the arrest as witnessed by Deputy J.W. Bill. Deputy Bill was killed by Billy the Kid when he made his jail break from the Lincoln jail. The arrest warrant comes with a museum tag that includes the following information: Arrest Warrant for Lincoln County, NM signed by Deputy J.W. Bell - who was killed by Billy the Kid when he made his jail break from the Lincoln jail. Dated January 13, 1881. Patrick Floyd Jarvis Garrett, born in 1850 and died in 1908, was an American Old West lawman, bartender and customs agent known for killing Billy the Kid. He was the sheriff of Lincoln County, New Mexico, as well as Doña Ana County, New Mexico. The condition of this Lincoln County arrest warrant is well preserved with some browning and staining to the warrant consistent with age and shows a folded demeanor but otherwise is well preserved condition.
