This is a very rare salesman sample book of "Sitting Bull and The Indian Wars” by W. Fletcher Johnson, 1891. These specimen books were used by the agents of publishers to entice customers to agree to purchase a copy of a work in advance of delivery. This form of marketing was common in America during the years just before and after the Civil War. The book shows the most popular cover. In the back of the book are pages for the salesman to log the subscriber’s signature, residence, style of banding, and price (agreed upon). Some of these pages have been torn-out. This book is 8" x 5 3/4" x 1/2". This book is in fair condition for being over one-hundred and thirty years old.
