The book contains eye-witness sketches and stories. The book was edited by Paul F Mottelay, with an introduction by Robert B. Beath, past Commander-in-Chief of the Grand Army of the Republic. The book is in fair-to-poor overall condition for the age of over 140 years; there is heavy damage to the outside spine of the cover of Volume I. The book is leather bound with a gold gilt cover and spine. The book measures 12 1/2" x 17".
