Included in this lot is Rare WW II Era Shenango China from the United States Army Air Force Cimarron Field, circa 1941-1944, one bread/butter dish, one cereal bowl, one fruit bowl. Once one of the largest dinnerware producers in the US, the company was known for producing china mostly for hotels, with some production for private use. Shenango China Factory also manufactured dishes for United States Presidents and serving dishes for the White House, including a commemorative plate for Dwight D. Eisenhower and dinnerware for Lyndon B. Johnson. During World War II, half of Shenango’s production was devoted to producing goods for the military. Opened in October, 1941, Cimarron Field airport in Oklahoma City conducted contract basic flying training for the United States Army Air Forces. Flying training was performed with Fairchild PT-19s as the primary trainer. Several PT-17 Stearmans and a few P-40 Warhawks were also assigned to Cimarron Field. Cimarron Field was inactivated on 27 June 1944 with the drawdown of AAFTC's pilot training program. The airfield was turned over to civil control at the end of the war.
