Featured in this lot is a Regency Style Crotch Mahogany Pedestal Cocktail Table by Century Furniture, with a cross banded wood top, three saber leg pedestal base, brass-capped feet and brass casters, top border section design continues on edge, circa Mid-Century Modern. Century Furniture of Hickory, North Carolina, is a leading manufacturer of high-end furniture in the United States. Flame or crotch mahogany refers to a highly decorative, figured wood grain pattern harvested from the area of a mahogany tree where the trunk splits into two major branches. In other words the "y" shape or crotch. The intense, compressed, and twisted wood fibers create a distinctive flame-like or feather-like, symmetrical pattern. Due to its extreme tension, this wood is unstable in solid form and is almost always cut into thin, beautiful veneers for high-end furniture, cabinets, and decorative panels.
