For your consideration is this signed original photograph by Richard Throssel, circa. 1909. Throssel is best known for his photography of the of the Crow Indian Reservation in Montana from 1902-1911. Throssel moved to the reservation in 1902 for health reasons and to join his brother , Harry, as a clerk in the Indian Service office. Throssel, who was quarter Canadian Cree, was adopted into the Crow Nation in 1906; giving him unique perspective and passport to photograph everyday life on the reservation. This photo appears to depict a U.S. Government agent and two workers delivering a whole beef ration to the reservation. The beef is about to be hanged for skinning and gutting. It is likely that this photo was taken while Richard Throssel was employed by the government as photographer-at-large for the Indian Service (1909-1911). The original photograph is on a period correct mat and bears Throssel's raised arrowhead seal; Throssel's signature appears over the seal. It appears to be dated "09. The photograph and mat (10.25" x 12.5") are in good condition and are shrink-wrapped to a piece of foam board (12.75" x 15.75").
