Featured in this lot is this Rocky Fork & Cooke City Railroad Archive, circa 1887. This is a record and archive from 1887 of a project started by a syndicate of five capitalists, including the Northern Pacific Railroad president, Henry Villard, and former Montana territorial governor and railroad speculator, Samuel Hauser. This group formed the Rocky Fork Coal Company and opened mines along Rock Creek at Red Lodge, Montana. This is a wonderful archive of more than 150 pieces that documents the day-to-day construction and operation of the fledgling railroad from 1883-1889 (most are dated 1889). Currently, the Montana Historical Society owns the bulk of documents and ephemera relating to this small but important railroad, making this archive all the more desirable. The condition of this lot is good, with no obvious signs of damage and good, overall condition. The archive measures 15 1/2" x 9 1/2" with the receipt measurement range from 4 3/4" x 3 3/4" to 9 1/2" x 4 1/4".
