This is an exceptionally rare original Rogers Smith & Co. Silver tea / coffee beverage server dating to circa 1868-1872. The piece shows an immensely scarce and valuable Grizzly Bear handle with the bear having his arm and paw extended. Very few figural silver Rogers Smith & Co. items have been offered for sale as they are immensely rare and desirable with a set of three unmatched napkin ring holders recently selling for $1,700 at auction in 2018. There have been various Rogers Smith & Co. Victorian 19th Century water or beverage serving sets that have been offered for sale, including the set that sold at auction for $2,700, but none with such immense figural presence as this example. The Tilting service set includes the base, swinging service pitcher with lid, and two goblets or cups. The entire surface of the pitcher and cup shows a wonderful wood grain pattern. The piece would have been on display in a prominent Western lodge or upscale hotel, due to its wonderful wildlife and outdoors theme. The base is marked, "Rogers Smith & Co. New-Haven Ct. PAT'D JUNE 13, 1968 PAT'D NOV. 3D 1868 / 4". The pouring area is marked, "PAT'D MARCH 26, 1872". The piece is a No. 4 or Number 4 and shows overall very good condition with bright silver construction and all of the accompanying piece present. The piece measures 17.5"H x 14.5"W x 9.25"D. This is truly a wonderful piece and displays very well.
