This is a very rare salesman sample book of "Echoes From The Rocky Mountains” by John W. Clampitt, 1888. These specimen books were used by the agents of publishers to entice customers to agree to purchase a copy of a work in advance of delivery. This form of marketing was common in America during the years just before and after the Civil War. The book shows the most popular cover with three other cover/spine options inside. In the back of the book are pages for the salesman to log the subscriber’s signature, residence, style of banding, and price (agreed upon). This book is normally 9 3/4" x 7 1/4" x 2”, but this salesman sample is only 1/4" thick. This book is in very good condition for being over one-hundred and thirty years old.
