Santa Clara Pueblo black-on-black pottery is one of the most iconic and highly regarded forms of Native American pottery. This distinctive style, characterized by its striking black color and polished surface, originates from the Santa Clara Pueblo in northern New Mexico. The black-on-black pottery style was popularized in the early 20th century by Maria Martinez and her husband, Julian Martinez, from the nearby San Ildefonso Pueblo. However, the Santa Clara Pueblo also has a long tradition of pottery making, and they adopted and adapted this style.
