Offered in this lot is a unique, Scandinavian, high relief carved, solid wood shelf. This book shelf has three shelves and a sunken bottom shelf. The hand carving along the top is extremely ornate and of high relief style. There are three parts to the "top" of the book shelf. The up-most part is a beveled trim piece that goes around three sides. The next piece down, across only the front, is 3 1/4" deep and is carved with a triangle and wing style design that has small holes cut into it, as if at one time from a piece that had lattice attached. The next section of carving on the front is 5 1/4" deep and has two plant and leaf images on either side of a center flower design. The back wall of the cabinet has four support strips on the inside and outside of the back wall. These pieces add strength, as well as style. One support strip is also on each side. The bottom of the cabinet has a scalloped edge to it on three sides, with Blacksmith forged strips of iron around the bottom four corners. This piece shows solid wood in old world craftsmanship. The wood is an unfinished with a rich, brown tone. This is a great one of a kind piece. Measures 46.75"W by 24.75"D by 83"H.
