Offered in this lot is a Scarce Original First Edition of "Selections From The Writings Of Walter Savage Landor", 1856, George Stillman Hillard, editor, published by Ticknor and Fields, Boston. A collection of short notes and essays on a variety of topics, including politics and government, literature and criticism, love, friendship, and more by English writer Walter Savage Landor (1775–1864). As a poet, Walter Savage Landor was best known for his classic epigrams and idylls. It was through his prose writings that Landor became well known, especially with the series of 'Imaginary Conversations' between literary and political personalities from all periods of European history. He is now often described as 'a poet's poet' and author of perhaps the greatest very short poems in English. The blue cloth bound gold gilt stamped designed hardcover is in nice condition, gold gilt is still bright, scuffing exhibited to covers. Intact pages exhibit age tanning and slight foxing.
