Featured in this lot is this original Civil War letter from Sgt. John Keller of the 87th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, 3rd Division, 6th Army Corps in 1865 at a camp near Weldon Railroad, Virginia. John Keller enlisted on September 25th, 1861 as a Corporal into Company D. His letter details to his friend that his unit has marching orders but they have not moved yet, and says he would be happy if they didn't move at all. He also mentions that he has sent another letter or two and was worried he had not received a response due to someone saying something the receiver of the letter did not like. The letter is set on a blank piece of a paper and a "The Rally Cry of Freedom" song lyrics paper published by James Magee. It shows beautiful American images, lyrics to the song and an image of a battle at the top. It shows good condition overall with wear present from its age and use over the years, but no major signs of damage is noted. The two pieces measure 8" L x 5" W and weigh under 6 ounces.
