The lot features an original beaded hide doll from the Shoshone Native American Indian people and dating to circa 1920’s to 1930’s. The doll shows an Indian tanned hide construction with trade clothe sewing over a padded wire frame making the doll able to be articulated. The doll shows glass trade seed beads along the moccasins, fringed pants, necklace, and headdress. The piece shows brass arm cuffs and a brass trade gorget beaded necklace. The chest and head show a red ocher mineral pigment dye. The doll effigy is secured to a board with the copper and metal wire extending from the feet. The piece still has the tag from Sundog Gallery stating it to be a 1920’s to 30’s Shoshone Doll for $350.00. Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and collected by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector Bruce also was the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman which was both part museum and gallery. Measures 11 inches high with a 5.5”x5.5” base.
