If a bill is counterfeit, it is sent to the Secret Service, but if it's merely unfit by the Federal standard, then the machine shreds it. Those shredded notes are sent to landfills or packaged and provided as souvenirs to the public on Federal Reserve Bank tours. The shredded money has been distributed into two jars, a smaller and larger one. The large jar measures 11 1/2" in height and 6 1/4" in diameter, the smaller jar measures 5 1/4" L x 4" W x 7 5/8" H.
