The lot features a beautifully beaded sheath comprising of Buffalo Indian tanned hide and paired with an early old trade knife all collected from the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota from the Sioux Native American Indians. The sheath shows a Great American Bison Buffalo Indian brain tanned hide construction with red stroud trade clothe piped top edge and covered on the front with glass trade seed beads in early period correct beads having a geometric pattern. The beads include colors of semi-transparent rose, greasy sky blue, greasy yellow, and cobalt. The set is thought to date to late 1800’s and is in overall good condition with little to no bead loss. The pattern of beadwork has a tail like center and hour glass top, a unique attribution. The trade knife shows a hardwood grip with pewter bolsters and flaring clip point blade showing a faint hallmark. Provenance: From the ex-collection of Dale Harrison of Cincinnati, Ohio and was collected from the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. Overall the sheath measures 8 inches long by 2 ½ inches wide and the knife is 10 ½ inches long.
