The lot features a solid catalinite pipestone pipe bowl with a fantastic ram’s body effigy carving from the Sioux Native American Indians of the Plains, dating to circa 1950’s. The solid red pipestone catlinite bowl shows the shape of a Rocky Mountain Rams horn body with rich dark red to speckled pink coloring and dark patina throughout. The stem connection is at the back of the ram’s body and the bowl, with tapering drilled ground walls, is at the ram’s back or shoulders. The Ram has a full curl horn, which has a full carved dimensional shape. This is truly a fantastic, highly figured effigy pipe with a nice, early Reservation age. Provenance: From a private collection of early American and Native American antiquities in Iowa. Measures overall 3.75” L by 1.5”H by 2” W.
