The lot features a Sioux Native American Indian stone head axe club with rattlesnake skin / hide wrapping dating to the early 1900’s. The piece is from the Zopf Collection in New York and was on display in the collector’s great uncles Stattsburg, New York restaurant named, “Indian Territory” in an artifact display case. The piece was acquired by his family from the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. The piece shows a stone axe head which is secured with a folded over wrapping of wood and parfleche attached to the wood haft handle and further wrapped with Rattlesnake skin / hide across the head and entire handle. The piece shows a soft skin with some slight worn spots, but amazing display. Measures 18”L by 6.5”W by 2” thick.
