Featured in this lot is this exceptional beaded men’s war shirt from the Cherokee artist, Jue Hardin, and made in the Sioux Indian style war shirt. The piece shows an Indian tanned Rocky Mountain Elk hide, which has amazing traditional war shirt beaded panels down the arms, across the back, to the front along both shoulders and panels, and along the back and chest. The beadwork is all early glass trade seed beads in a traditional geometric pattern with colors of chalk white, dark blue, sky blue, medium red, and yellow. The war shirt has a blue ocher mineral pigment paint along the arms and shoulders and is further adorned with red shroud trade cloth and trade cloth and hide-wrapped horsehair drop fringes along the arms, chest, and back. The bottom edge of the shirt shows a typical curved natural cut, which is finished with integral short cut fringe. This is a contemporary war shirt. The condition of this war shirt is good, showing no obvious signs of damage; the war shirt shows contemporary age and no bead loss. The measurements of this war shirt are 43" x 37".
