This is an exceptional pre-1890 Indian Wars Era bone hair pipe breastplate from the Sioux Native American Indians. This 19th Century piece shows harness saddle leather remnant strips holding strips of Indian tanned hide with hand carved bone hair pipe long beads. The breast plate shows long end fringe at the outer edge and a total of four harness saddle leather gasket strips. The top strap consists of early Czechoslovakia cut glass early trade beads on Indian tanned hide and string. Approximately four to five hair pipe bone beads are missing, but overall, the piece is in well preserved museum quality condition for its early mid to late 1800’s age. The piece has excellent patina from honest age and use and has been looked over by an American Indian expert and found to be an authentic pre-1890 example. Provenance: The piece is from one of the most prominent American Indian collections in Billings, Montana. A piece such as this would have been worn during battle to protect the chest of the Warrior and is truly a rare and exiting piece. Overall measures 23”by19” with fringe.
