For your consideration is this Rare "Sitting Bull and the Indian War Book", 1st Edition 1891 by W. Fletcher Johnson. "Life of the great medicine man and chief Sitting Bull; his tragic death; story of the Sioux nation; their manners and customs, Ghost Dances and Messiah Craze; also a very complete history of the sanguinary Indian War of 1890-'91", Edgewood Publishing Company. This work is an excellent reference on the Sioux Nation and includes a map of the Badlands in South Dakota, an account of General George Custer's Last Stand at the Battle of Little Big Horn, and a description of the lives of White Beaver and William "Buffalo Bill" Cody. The book contains many illustrations and photographs including notable Native American chiefs, US Army officers, battlefield sketches, most in the black & white format of the time but a few of Native Americans including Sitting Bull's son Crow Foot are in a pinkish hue. The greenish blue cloth bound gold gilt embossed front cover shows a portrait of Sitting Bull at the top with a battle scene vignette below, medallion images of both Major General Miles and U.S. Deputy Bartlett. At the bottom of the cover is a vignette of the Ghost Dance, embossed title as such. Gold gilt embossed spine has an image of Sitting Bull standing. The book is in good condition consistent with its age and normal handling, scuffing and fading noted to the covers and spine, foxing noted to intact pages. Measures 5.5"W x 8"L x 1.5"D
