Featured in this lot is a Smith & Wesson Model 2, Second Change, double-action revolver, chambered for .38 S&W cartridge. The revolver was manufactured between 1880-84, and would qualify as a very early 2nd change, with its 27450 serial number. The revolver utilizes a 3 1/4" round barrel, hard rubber "S&W" monogram grips, top-break action, automatic cartridge extractor, and a five-shot cylinder. The revolver is marked on the top of the barrel, reading "SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS. U.S.A. PAT'D JAN. 17 & 24.65. - JULY 11.65.AUG.24.69.JULY 25.71.DEC.2.79.MAY 11 & 25. 1880." on the top of the barrel rib, and the serial number on the butt of the grips, on the back of the cylinder, and the bottom of the top break lever. Overall, the revolver shows good aesthetic, and mechanical condition. Cosmetically, the revolver shows a nice naturally aged patina on top of the blue'd finish, and excellent grips, with a mellow brown patina. Mechanically, the revolver has a superb action, which is in good time, and has strong cylinder lock-up on single action. Additionally, the barrel shows good condition overall, with strong rifling, but some darkness. The revolver qualifies as an Antique Hand Gun, and does NOT require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check. Serial Number: 27450.
