For your consideration is a Smith & Wesson No. 1, 2nd Issue .22 RF revolver. The Model 1, 2nd Issue represented a substantial redesign for the Model 1, with a fluted cylinder, a round barrel, and a rounded "bird's head" style grip. Variants include the "square" and "triangular" top strap design that changed around serial number 9,500. The Model 1 was in popular demand with the outbreak of the American Civil War as soldiers from all ranks on both sides of the conflict made private purchases of the revolvers for self-defense. The revolver was so popular that orders for the Model 1 revolver outpaced the factory's production capabilities, forcing Smith & Wesson to expand. This revolver utilizes a 3 1/2" solid rib barrel chambered in .32 RF. The five shot shows little wear across the nickel finish. The revolver is fit with walnut grips, spur trigger, and birds head grip. The top of the barrel is marked "Smith & Wesson Springfield Mass. Pat. Apr. 3. 55. July 5. 59 & Nov. 21. 65". The revolver shows fair condition for its age. Serial Number: 81570. This firearm qualifies as an Antique and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
