Featured in this lot is this toy replica, South African, Botswana Makoro and punting pole. There is a Makoro boat and a punting pole in this collection. The boat is hand carved and fire hardened on the rim of the boat and has geometric patterns etched and fire hardened into the boat wall. The punting pole shows a striped design with a split handle on one side and a single opposite side. A mokoro (also spelled makoro) is a type of canoe commonly used in the Okavango Delta and on the Chobe River in Botswana. It is propelled through the shallow waters of the delta or the river by standing in the stern and pushing with a pole, in the same manner as punting. The condition of this Makoro boat and pole is good, with no obvious signs of damage. The measurements of this Makoro boat are 1" x 15" x 2 1/2 and the pole measures 16 1/2".
