Featured in this lot is this Leadwood white rhino and rhino calf from South African carver, Abednico Moyo. The White Rhino carving features a fantastic realistic texturing and sports hand carved signatures across the piece from the horn to the detail around the eyes. The calf, while facing the other direction, is tucked into the right flank of the rhino. White rhinos are the second largest land mammal and their name comes from the Afrikaan's, a West Germanic language, word “weit”, which means wide and refers to the animal's mouth. Also known as the square-lipped rhinoceros, white rhinos have a square upper lip with almost no hair. The condition of this Leadwood carving is good, with slight damage to the left ear of the calf. The measurements of this Leadwood carving are 7 1/4" x 15 3/4" x 7".
