The lot features an outstanding silver mounted forged iron ring horse bit with Spanish origins to the early 1800’s. The piece shows blacksmith forged iron structure showing a very unique hexagonal (six sided) mouthpiece with forged grooved roller. At the outsides are two large incredible cheek spots which show a solid cast and engraved bronze or silver construction with silver overlay or finish having outstanding three-dimensional details and being 3 5/8” across each. A ring bit features a ring that encircles the horse's lower jaw. The ring gives the rider greater steering for horses that tend to lug in or bear out. The top of the bit shows a matching solid heavy cast bronze or silver construction with silver overlay or finish having again the matching immensely detailed three-dimensional worked design with center plaque. The bit dates to early 1800’s and is the most ornate blacksmith and silver adorned example we have ever seen for sale. The ring bit measures 13” x 6 ¼”.
