Featured in this lot is a Springfield Model 1841 Mississippi percussion cap conversion rifle chambered in .58 caliber. The rifle originally boasted a flint lock system but was replaced with the more reliable percussion cap system. The rifle displays a 35" long barrel, percussion cap hammer and lock plate, butt plate, and wood stock and shortened fore grip. The lock plate is marked with the eagle and shield emblem and marked "U.S." underneath the eagle with "Springfield 1841" at the end of the lock plate. The butt plate is marked across the top, "U.S.". The lock plate displays brass fill where the flash pan for the original flint lock system went. The barrel and lock plate display a warm patina and mild pitting across the exterior, with the wood stock showing wear due to use and age and a crack on the left side. The piece shows working mechanics, with the hammer and trigger system functioning properly. This firearm qualifies as an antique and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
