This is a Model 1884 Trapdoor Springfield .45-70 caliber cavalry carbine, serial number 362720. This is a fine early carbine with all the correct features including sling ring bar, trap in butt plate for cleaning rods, Có (for carbine) marked Buffington carbine rear sight with correct corresponding barrel band with fluted top made expressly for this sight etc. A true original U.S. issued carbine made for the Indian Wars, this 1886 manufactured carbine displays the inky-blue-black oil quenched case harden color on the lock plate and hammer. Overall, uncleaned with beautifully aged metal that has a smooth dark aged blue exterior and shows no evidence of abuse. It has the correct U.S. MODEL 1873ó marked breech block that was used through the year 1886, after which the marking was changed to Model 1884ó. The lock plate shows a clear U.S. Springfieldó with eagle motif, correct carbine walnut stock that is in unusually beautiful condition that shows only the most minor of handling marks, all correct VPó over eagle headó barrel proof marks, even retains good aged blue on the trigger guard. Excellent mechanics and bright, excellent rifled bore, overall a very fine Indian Wars cavalry Trapdoor carbine. This is the standard model that was used in every major engagement from the Battle of the Rosebud and Battle of the Little Bighorn to Wounded Knee. An exceptional condition example with solid wood and superb metal. The carbine qualifies as an Antique Long Gun, and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check. Serial Number: 362720.
