Included in this lot is a Model 1884 Trapdoor Springfield .45-70 caliber trapdoor rifle. A true original U.S. issued rifle with an 1891 manufacture date. Overall, the rifle is uncleaned with beautifully aged metal that has a smooth, dark aged blue exterior and shows no evidence of abuse. It has the correct “U.S. MODEL 1884” marked breech block. The lock plate shows a clear “U.S. Springfield” with eagle motif, correct walnut stock that is in unusually beautiful condition and shows only the most minor of handling marks. The rifle has all correct “VP” over “eagle head” barrel proof marks, and it even retains good aged blue on the trigger guard. The rifle also has excellent mechanics and bright, excellent rifled bore, making it a very fine Springfield rifle, overall. This is the standard model that was used in every major engagement from the Battle of the Rosebud and Battle of the Little Bighorn to Wounded Knee.
