Featured in this lot we have a Sterling Armalite model AR-180 semi automatic rifle chambered in 5.56mm. The model AR-180 is the semi auto only civilian variant of the Armalite AR-18 rifle which was designed in 1963 as an alternative to Colt's AR-15 design. Due to the U.S. military choosing Colt's AR-15 over the AR-18 more of the civilian models were manufactured with this rifle produced in England by Sterling Armaments Company placing its date of manufacture between 1979-1985. The rifle displays a 19" long round barrel, folding stock, pistol grip, external magazine, and shoulder carry strap. The left side of the receiver is marked reading "ARMALITE AR-180 CAL 5.56mm ARMALITE PATENTS MFG FOR ARMALITE INC. COSTA MESA. CALIF. U.S.A. BY STERLING ENGLAND" with the hard plastic pistol grips reading "AR-18 ARMALITE". The barrel shows a black hard plastic fore grip/ barrel shroud along with three pronged flash suppressor and bayonet mount. Mechanically the rifle shows good working condition with smooth action and good trigger. The rifle shows good condition with wear due to handling and use with minor rust across the blue'd finish and the rear sight housing dented on one side. The rifle weighs 7lbs 10oz. Serial Number: 22414. This is a modern firearm and requires a FFL transfer or NICS background check.
