The lot features a large rawhide stretched one log wood carved drum from Taos Drums, the piece can be used as a coffee table as it comes with a custom cut glass top. The top has a single piece of custom cut glass which follows the shape of the drum allowing it to be used as a piece of furniture / coffee table without altering or damaging the amazing workmanship and beauty of the rawhide along with elevating any room to be a Western American Indian showcase. The drum is all handmade from the Taos Drum workshop and is made by native craftsman artist from the Taos Pueblo ages-old tradition of drum making. This drum is one of the larger sizes they make and is considered a one tree or one log drum as the drum is crafted from one large tree trunk which is burned and carved out at the center leaving the ridged wood outer core in one piece then covered in two rawhide parfleche thick wraps, one on the top and bottom, which are wetted and stretched over the wood and tied with rawhide lacing which then all dries giving a taunt hard surface with amazing deep sounds. The hide is hand scalloped, stretched and secured with rawhide lacing to the frame. This drum has its own distinct voice of deep bass that you feel as much as hear. This drum is as much a piece of art as it is a musical instrument in its simple beauty. The drum measures from 38"-38 1/2" across and 16 1/2" thick. Both sides have playable Parfleche hide skins. The drum has parfleche braided handles on the side one of which has broken but other than that is in very good condition.
