For your consideration is a very rare 19th C. French Marquetry Accent Table attributed to the firm of renowned ébéniste, Paul Sormani et Fils, designed in the Louis XV and Louis XVI neoclassical styles of the 18th century. The angular table is raised over legs with an intense trumpet-effect, adorned with ornate ormolu floral motifs, each tapering sharply to a tiny ankle with bronze floral wraps. They are locked in place with conjoined opposing U-form stretchers over toupie feet. The sides and lid feature the frame around the lid worked with an intricate scaled motif, brass and bronze finishing.
Similarly as his contemporaries, Sormani's furniture is highly prized by aficionado's of the 18th century decorative arts on the market, which at the time included Empress Eugénie, wife of Napoleon III, who decorated her palaces with his creations. His exacting standards for craftsmanship are evident in the precision of bronze mounts, choice of the finest woods and veneers and period craftsmanship that insisted on perfection in every detail.
The lid lifts off by two decorative bronze handles, revealing the inner chamber. The condition is remarkable considering its age, some gilt inlay is absent, top has indentations and scratches.
