Featured in this lot is this Tiger Mango mytlewood box from artist Terry Evans born in 1951. The box features a wonderfully and professionally crafted myrtlewood construction that shows a mango box design and features wenge of veneer and butternut veneer to this box. The piece features the original box tag depicting the description of the box inside of the box. Provenance: from the Mark Subletter Medicine Man Gallery and features a certificate of authenticity present. For decades, Kansas-born wood artist Terry Evans has created laminated wood art and sculptures unique in form to anything else in the field. His exceptional boxes and sculptures appear fluid, with his skillful layering of the different color lumber and veneers highlighting the surface curves. To create these wood masterworks, Evans laminates exotic hardwood lumber and veneers together before carving, cutting, sanding, and reassembling each piece into a unique creation. Evans’s work has been shown in significant wood art exhibitions at the Museum of Art and Design, University of Michigan Art Museum, Detroit Institute of Art, and the Peabody and Essex Museum. His work is also included in the Montalto Bohlen Collection of fine wood art. The condition of this mango box is good with no obvious signs of damage and shows good overall condition. The measurements of this mango box is 4 1/2" x 5 3/4" x 2 1/2".
