Featured in this lot is this book called "The Forest Crossing: Life in the Canadian Backwoods," circa 19th century. The book features a maroon color cloth wrapping with black gilt and gold gilt adorning the cover and the spine of the book with a floral decoration to the central gilt decoration. This book was presented by "The Teacher" to Chris Lonsie in 1875 and is a fictional book about Minnie and family living in the backwoods of Canada where her father is a lumberman. Her mother dies when she is only 14 and Minnie tries to find how to make her father's home happy. Charming and attractive book, with several black and white illustrations. The condition of this book is fair with some wear to the outside cover of the book and shows a slight tear to the cloth covering of the spine and shows browning to the pages consistent with the age of the book. The measurements of this book are 6 3/8" x 4 3/8".
