Featured in this lot is the 1912 Edition of "The Girl's Own Annual" by Flora Klickmann, printed by William Clowes And Sons, Limited, London. The Girl's Own Annual was published each year, ready for the Christmas market. The Girl’s Own Annual is a British book that was published from 1880-1940. It was a year’s cumulation of "The Girl’s Own Paper & Women's Magazine"which originally came out weekly until 1908 when it became a monthly publication. One could liken it to a modern teen magazine, in that it related to young women and their interests. Each Annual included the material from the previous year's weeklies, from October to September. Complete bound Annuals were on sale, but many readers chose to accumulate their own weekly or monthly Girl's Own Annuals, and then have them bound privately, using either the specially printed boards which could be obtained from the Girl's Own Annual office, or their own chosen. Annuals are therefore to be found with a wide variety of bindings, many of them very handsome. 56 small illustrations by Loise Wain within stories and 1 by Cyrus Cuneo. 9 Full page colour illustrations, Harold Copping. Includes, Irish Crochet Venetian Crochet Macrame, Fashion of the day plus much more. Included in its pages are Children's literature; short fiction stories; stories of the different royal houses of Europe; dress styles and patterns; early 20th century house and garden designing; career opportunities; how to tips on behaving as a lady in public and many, many more. Inside both front and back covers are photographs of Queen Mary of England and Empress Augusta Victoria of Germany respectively. The rear endpaper has a photograph of Empress Alexandra of Russia. Of special importance in this annual was published the editor's new column, "Women and the Money Market" on page 45. Solid financial advice which seems very apropos to today's culture. This reddish-brown cloth covered gold gilt hardcover book is in good overall condition, pictorial onlay of young Edwardian young lady in a front cover gold gilt medallion and stamped gold gilt stamped illustration of a young female student on spine. Front and back boards loose from spine but attached, slight scuffing to cover edges. Front endpaper missing, otherwise intact pages exhibit age tanning throughout and slight foxing. No other obvious marring noted, measures 8.5"W x 11"L x 1.5"D
