Offered in this lot is a First Edition of "The Great Book Of French Impressionism" by Diane Kelder, 1980, Abbeville Press, New York. The Great Book of French Impressionism celebrates the richness and exuberance of the Impressionists' world--a world of light and color, of sunlit fields and shimmering waterscapes, of bustling city views and intimate domestic scenes. Art historian Diane Kelder traces the development of Impressionism from its roots in landscape and realist painting through its focus on modern urban life to its ultimate goal: to fix on canvas the fleeting moods and effects of nature in an ever-changing world. The author weaves into her narrative fascinating anecdotes and excerpts form contemporary essays and letters, examines in detail the lives and works of all the major Impressionists and Post-Impressionists. A survey of works by French artists of the Impressionist movement focuses on Manet, Monet, Renoir, Cassatt, Degas, Toulouse-Lautrec, van Gogh, Seurat, Gauguin and Cézanne. With its lively narrative and profuse illustrations, this volume captures the visual riches of a remarkable era. 415 illustrations. Diane Kelder is professor emerita of art history at the Graduate Center, City University of New York, and consulting curator of the Jules Fisher Collection at the Morgan Library and Museum. Kelder's research interests include the art of the French Revolution, 19th and early 20th century French painting, the history of graphic art, and early American modernism. This wonderful anthology of French Impression is in very nice overall condition. The blue cloth bound hardcover is in very good condition with gold gilt lettering on tight spine with no marring noted. Intact pages are in good overall condition with light soiling observed on page edges, no other obvious marring observed. Original pictorial dust jacket is in good overall condition. The book measures 15.25"L x 12"W x 2"D.*
