David Livingstone (1813 - 1873) was a British physician and pioneer Christian missionary with the London Missionary Society, an explorer in Africa, and one of the most popular British heroes of the late 19th-century Victorian era. He had a mythical status that operated on a number of interconnected levels: Protestant missionary martyr, working-class "rags-to-riches" inspirational story, scientific investigator and explorer, imperial reformer, anti-slavery crusader, and advocate of commercial and colonial expansion. This green cloth bound gold gilt stamped book is in good overall condition, with tissue guarded frontispiece of Dr. Livingstone, illustrated plates. Cover and spine exhibit scuffing to edges, intact pages have age tanning and minimal foxing, measures 5"W x 7.5"L x 1.25"D
