An overview of the Navajo people in 29 chapters organized into 5 parts: Legend and History, Life and Custom, Arts and Crafts, Mythology and Ceremony, The Navajos and the Government. The information in the book comes almost wholly from the Navajo People themselves. Three prominent Navajos are credited in the preface of the book, Nils Hogner (artist and trader), Long Mustache (medicine man), and Louis Watchman (interpreter). Dane Coolidge was an American author, naturalist, and photographer. He wrote fiction, non-fiction, and articles featuring the American West. He wrote short stories for magazines and made illustrations. Mary Roberts Coolidge was an American sociologist and author, as well as collegiate professor at both Wellesley and Stanford.
