Featured in this lot is a Rare 1916 First Edition of "The Story of Montana" by Kate Hammond Fogarty, published by The A.S. Barnes Company. Over fifty illustrations including seven maps. While Fogarty was on staff at the Butte Public Library, she wrote "The Story of Montana" to meet the need for a school textbook. Montana came into the Union rather late. Its early history was less one of exploration and politics, but more a history of the Fur Trade in the Great Northwest and the Missouri River. Also of note is the Montana Gold Rush, and the resultant Old West towns and culture. The book provides a comprehensive account of the history of Montana, from its earliest days as a territory to its eventual statehood. The author covers a wide range of topics, including the Native American tribes that inhabited the area, the fur trade, the gold rush, and the development of the state's economy and infrastructure. The book also includes biographical sketches of prominent figures in Montana's history, such as Lewis and Clark, Chief Joseph, and Calamity Jane. Throughout the book, Fogarty highlights the struggles and triumphs of the people who shaped Montana's past, and provides insight into the challenges that the state faced as it grew and developed. This green cloth bound stamped hardcover is in nice condition, scuffing noted to cover edges, tight spine. Intact pages exhibit age tanning and very slight foxing. Measures 4.75"W x 7.25"L x .75"D, weight 14oz.
