Offered in this lot is a First Edition of "The Story of Red Feather" by Edward S. Ellis, 1908, McLoughlin Brothers New York, publishers. Historical fiction involving the 1862 Lakota Sioux uprising, illustrated throughout with engravings plus a color frontis. Edward Sylvester Ellis (1840-1916) was an American teacher, school administrator, journalist, and the author of hundreds of books and magazine articles that he produced by his name and sixteen pseudonyms! Notable fiction stories by Ellis include "The Steam Man of the Prairies" and "Seth Jones, Or the Captives of the Frontier." Internationally, Edward S. Ellis is probably known best for his Deerfoot novels read widely by young boys until the 1950s. The Dakota War of 1862, also known as the Sioux Uprising, the Dakota Uprising, the Sioux Outbreak of 1862, the Dakota Conflict, or Little Crow's War, was an armed conflict between the United States and several eastern bands of Dakota collectively known as the Santee Sioux. The tan cloth bound gold gilt stamped illustrated hardcover is in good overall condition, slight scuffing exhibited, gold gilt is still clean and bright. Intact pages exhibit age tanning and slight foxing. Measures 7"W x 9.25"L x .5"D, weight 14oz.
