Featured in this lot is a copy of "The Underground World" by Thos. W. Knox, published in 1880. Thomas Wallace Knox (June 26, 1835 - January 6, 1896) was a journalist, author, and world traveler, known primarily for his work as a New York Herald correspondent during the American Civil War. As an author, Knox wrote over 45 books, including a popular series of travel adventure books for boys. As Knox describes in the preface, "the chief intent of this work is the plain, sufficient, and entertaining description of the marvelous lives not only of miners, but of all whose lot or choice it is to "delve and dare" underground." This work contains many illustrations, is in good condition for age (cover and binding loose), and measures 9" x 6.25".
