Included in this lot is an original Bob Scriver bronze titled “The Winchester Rider” and numbered 157/250. Circa 1979, this limited edition example (157/250) was cast at the Big Horn Foundry. The limited edition figural bronze titled: “The Winchester Rider” is based on the famous Winchester logo featuring a mounted frontiersman, running at a full gallop, carrying a lever action Winchester rifle. The integral base with sagebrush and cow skull in relief. The bronze is mounted on a faceted walnut plinth with a plaque inscribed with the title “The Winchester Rider”. “The Winchester Rider” was created exclusively for the Winchester Museum, with the permission of the Winchester Group, and based on the painting by Philip R. Goodwin. Robert Macfie Scriver (1914-1999) was born in Browning, Montana (in the heart of the Blackfoot Indian Reservation) in 1914. Scriver began sculpting using taxidermy to learn his craft of making wildlife bronzes. By 1962 he became a charter member of the Society of Animal Artists, had been accepted into the prestigious Cowboy Artists of America, listed in Who’s Who in American Art, and a member of the National Sculpture Society, and the National Academy of Western Art. This is a Lost Wax Bronze Casting and shows a walnut base. Bob Scriver bronzes have been valued at over $30,000-$50,000. He is believed to be "The Cowboy’s National Sculptor" and one of the finest Montana bronze artists of the 20th century. This stunning bronze sculpture comes with the Winchester Museum certificate of authenticity. These 250 bronze sculptures were originally cast to assist in the original funding of the Winchester Museum. This piece is a truly remarkable piece of Western art and Winchester history.
