Featured in this lot is this illustrated hardcover of “The Yellowstone National Park Historical and Descriptive” by Hiram Martin Chittenden, 1924. "New and Enlarged Edition, Entirely Revised", J. E. Haynes, Publisher, Saint Paul. The book features a comprehensive description of America's first national park, Yellowstone, with its wildlife and vegetation. Hiram Martin Chittenden (1858–1917) was an American engineer and historian, Chittenden's 1902 history of the fur trade has been highly influential among historians of the West. He authored "The Yellowstone National Park Historical and Descriptive" during his first years working at Yellowstone and was in exclusive charge of the road work and general improvements, the basalt arch at the northern entrance and the single-span Chittenden Memorial Bridge (formerly the Melan arch bridge) across the Yellowstone River. The book contains numerous maps and illustrations, including a fold out map inside the back cover. The blue cloth bound cover has gilt gold lettering on the cover and along the spine.
